The more things change, the more things stay the same. This year  alone, has been one for the record books. It’s been eventful to say the least. Not just for me personally but life in general. I’m sure everyone has felt the interesting energy going on at times. Even with all the change this year has brought into my life (some voluntary and others not quite so much), one thing that has been constant are the people I choose to keep around me.

As I sit here and reflect on this past year, one thing that crosses my mind are my family and friends. Not only do I just think of them, I think about how they have always been there for me. They’ve been there, even when I was too wrapped up in myself to realize it. There was a time I was too caught up in my ‘woe’ is me attitude that I neglected their needs. I was a walking and talking mood ring. I could be crabby, sad, hurt or upset and I’d knowingly and unknowingly take it out on them. They are some troopers. Even with all that, they’re still around with arms wide open. If that isn’t an example of unconditional love and forgiveness right there, than I don’t know what is. It took self-realization as well as looking within and tuning into my own happiness to be able to finally open up and accept the love they’ve been try to give me for years. I’ve been able to reciprocate the amazing love and support I receive as well.

As this year comes to a close, I just want to say I’m thankful for all the opportunities I had to spend time with my family and friends. I’m grateful for the amazing new people who have come into my life as well. Even with all of the endings, closures and transitions I experienced I can say that I had a great year and I look forward to what’s to come. I’m not making any resolutions for 2017. There’s no need to. I just want to keep my heart and mind open and to keep becoming a better person. I look forward to all the wonderful things to come.

…wishing you all a sweet and successful 2017.

Happy New Year!

    • Great idea Ayanna! I think goals are more realistic and better for accountability (imo). Have a Happy New Year as well.

  1. AAwww.. this is such a sweet post. Sometimes we are so wrapped up in ourselves, we forget friends and family. It’s nice to let them know that they are very much appreciated.

  2. LOVE this! I had to rely heavily on the love and support of my friends and family this past year and I don’t know where I’d be without them. Can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store.

  3. My goals/resolutions for 2017 is more some looking within and focusing on myself. I’m like you – this year I’m just going to keep myself open when it comes to others but I’m more so taking care of me.

    • The ‘open heart’ concept stumped me a bit too but I’m slowly but surely getting into it. A little vulnerability is okay every now and then.

  4. I can’t wait to see what 2017 will bring, I’m not rushing it, but I am looking forward to the future. I am going to remain positive and keep my focus.
